Story 6- Matt

When reading story 6 what first came to mind when the androids were being introduced to the elderly guests was the 2015 sci-fi "Chappie". The film is about a security robot that gets new programming that allows it to think for itself. When the new programming has initiated a group of bandits must nurture Chappie like a baby. Having no knowledge about social norms or how to act to fit in. While looking very much so like an actual robot (no skin pigment, just a humanoid body cast in metal) he begins to act more human than the antagonist at the end of the film. The crux of the film is Chappie's inner battle between doing what he was programmed too (a security robot created with intentions to be lethal in the battlefield) and using his new free self which has learned to be peaceful. Chappie's improves himself from learning in real life not further program installations just like Shion " Install? Can't be done. Like I said, Shion's skills improve just like ours do through practice" ( Story 6, e-page 3367). Overall I thought this story was extremely similar to how AI works to how Chappie evolved in Neill Blomkamp's 2015 movie "Chappie".

a) In my own experience with the use of virtual spaces, I find it difficult to develop complex interpersonal relationships. It is possible to begin relationships through the use of virtual spaces, however I do not think it is possible to maintain any type of relationship unless the relationship is sought beyond the virtual space and into a real and intimate space. Yamamoto - Story 7 (Lauren)

provide an overview of your thoughts, feelings, ideas, responses to the book as a whole Overall, I liked the book. I think the idea of sending a message through storytelling is very interesting. The future is essentially unpredictable, but Yamamoto’s book offers an interesting interpretation with Artificial Intelligence. I really like how optimistic the book is, because most of us tend to be afraid of what might happen with AI, but there are a lot of positive aspects to appreciate about technology (as long as we don’t lose control of it).
