The main connection I made with other media was the Black Mirror episode. This episode involves an alternate reality in which a man has created a game in which alternate forms of other people he works with. It is the first thing I connected to when reading this chapter. In the show, it is all inside his mind but the alternate forms of the other characters are trapped. In the first reading of Ibis, the there is the Celestial ship and the entire crew and they are in this fictional club together. One main difference is that in Black Mirror, they are forced to be crew members whereas in the book, they want to be a part of this fictional community. The alternate world of the ships and galaxies both have consequences for the mental health of the real people involved.

a) In my own experience with the use of virtual spaces, I find it difficult to develop complex interpersonal relationships. It is possible to begin relationships through the use of virtual spaces, however I do not think it is possible to maintain any type of relationship unless the relationship is sought beyond the virtual space and into a real and intimate space. This is true especially if the relationship happens between a fully real entity. Yamamoto - Story 7 (Lauren)

provide an overview of your thoughts, feelings, ideas, responses to the book as a whole Overall, I liked the book. I think the idea of sending a message through storytelling is very interesting. The future is essentially unpredictable, but Yamamoto’s book offers an interesting interpretation with Artificial Intelligence. I really like how optimistic the book is, because most of us tend to be afraid of what might happen with AI, but there are a lot of positive aspects to appreciate about technology (as long as we don’t lose control of it).
